Nalgonda was earlier referred to as Neelagiri, the name given by some Rajput rulers and the name was
changed to Nallagonda only after its conquest by Allauddin Bahaman Shah, a Bahamani king.
Nalgonda District is currently a part of the Red Corridor.
The place has been around for many centuries and evidence of Paleolithic and Neolithic sites have been found in the
area. The place was ruled by the Bahamani Kingdom and it later came under the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad. The
town was earlier known as Nilagiri and was later changed for official purposes.
The region was also ruled by the Pallavas for certain and they fought with the Yadavas in order to gain supremacy over
the region. Nalgonda came under Muslim rule after the Bahami rulers occupied the place. It was also ruled by the Nizam
of Hyderabad and the Mughal Kings. Nalgonda is also infamous for its part in the telengana rebellion
