Earlier, Karimnagar called as elagandala representing native Telangana people. Later on Nizams changed the
name as Karimnagar which derives its name from Syed Karimullah Shah Saheb Quiladar, and was a centre for
Vedic learning etc.
It was ruled by the Chola Kings from the 11th to the 14th century. Later it was conquered by the Vijayangar Kingdom.
There are traces of these different dynasties that can be seen in the area. Kadapa was under Muslim rule and
subsequently under the British also.
